In a sold out crowd at the nation’s biggest football stadium, the bastion of the national football teams of Cameroon, and with the watchful eye of the president of the republic and wife , the indomitable lioness of Cameroon demonstrated their title credentials they dominated and outplayed the Egyptians in day one of the 2016 AFCON tournament hosted by Cameroon. The match though dominated by the lions, lack some flair as the Egyptians middle life difficult for the lions with a defensive approach, bu the attacking firepower of the girls of Enow Natchu proof to be too strong for the north Africans as Gabraelle Aboudi Onguene open score in the 25th minute to give the host nation a deserving lead. The Lionesses continued their dominance till the half time.
During the second half, the lions continued to move forward for a second goal, pressing the Egyptians to play in their own half and at the 71st minute, the Egyptians conceded a penalty when Njoya Ajara was bundled down at the goalpost. The penalty was brilliantly converted by defender and team captain Christine Patience Mani who sent the goalkeeper to the other side of the ball making the score 2:0 in favor of the Lionesses of Cameroon.
Later in the evening, the Banyana Banyana of South Africa were held by Zimbabwe to a 0:0 tie as both teams share the spoils in a game that look evenly split in terms of possession
