It has been a pretty turbulent week for the new president and political outsider as his administration has received scrutiny from mainstream media in the most intense way than ever seen even by his very own standards. Matters become even more difficult for the real estate billionaire turn politician as he saw his NSA, general Michael Flynn resign days ago over allegations he talked sanctions with Russian ambassador while president Obama was still in office, his executive order to banned Muslims from 7 muslim majority countries has been so unpopular to say the least and the court has suspended the order while his team scramble to come up with something more acceptable.
But amidst all these and more, the president who came to office against a backdrop of media criticism, with many mainstream media literally acting like opposition party like his chief strategist Bannon said, calling him unfit for the white house, he is un-presidential, lack of temperament and some say he has no governing experience. But just like they failed to realized that these are changing times for the world, it seem if there was or there is anybody who actually understand these times it’s Donald. They media failed to realize that Trump used a new way to win the white house and he will certainly use the news way to govern.
And so after just a month into the oval office, no wonder the friction between the president and the mainstream media has been on the rise, with Donald trump calling the media “enemy to the American people”. He has always called them “dishonest” and use them as the main reason he always tweet directly to the American people. When his campaign team organized a rally in Florida for the president who is just 30 days in office, the media again went to overdrive with a barrage of criticism as some say it’s too early to campaign for 2020 elections when the commander in chief has so much to do.
But again it shows the media and president trump are in two different worlds as before taking the stage, Trump was asked if it was too early to do another campaign event. His response: “Life’s a campaign.”
“Making our country great again is a campaign,” Trump added. “For me, it’s a campaign. To make America great again is absolutely a campaign.” Trump has decided to bring campaign style in his governing, taking his message to his supporters who are usually in thousands amidst raucous reception and campaign level- adulation, but most importantly ,to commune with his own.
Trump, clearly ready for some relief from the confines of Washington and the limitations of the house he ran to occupy, reverted back to his campaign habits, basking in what energized him for months during the slog of his race against Hillary Clinton.
At one point, Trump invited Gene Huber — a supporter who said he arrived at the venue at 4 a.m. ET to be the first in line for the event — up to the stage. The man was briefly stopped by the Secret Service before the President urged agents to let him come up and address the audience.
“I wouldn’t say Secret Service was thrilled with that … but we know our people,” Trump said.
“I am here because I want to be among my friends and among the people,” Trump said to open his rally. “This was a great movement, a movement like has never been seen before in our country or before anywhere else, this was a truly great movement and I want to be here with you and I will always be with you.” Trump said in his opening statement.
The president gave a rundown of his achievements in the first 30 days of his presidency, criticized the judge who suspended his executive order saying he has the constitutional powers to do so and even a bad high school student will understand
But it did not take long before he turns to his greatest enemy-the media saying “When the media lies to the people, I will never let them get away with it. I will do whatever I can so they don’t get away with it. They have their own agenda and their agenda is not your agenda,” .
Michael Caputo, a former senior adviser to Trump’s campaign, said he expects this sort of campaign-style event will be the “first of many.”
“He grew very familiar with the rally concept and I expect him to return to where he is comfortable when he needs to recharge,” Caputo said. “The fact that Trump showed us a new way of winning should have given everyone a hint that he would show everyone a new way of governing.”
