Mugabe enters Cuba with a package of praise for the fallen icon


Zimbabwean president and long-time ally of Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro have praise the Cuban leader for inspiring him and other “world leaders”. The 92-year-old president Mugabe was speaking in Havana as he had jetted into the country to ay his final respect to  the one he refers to as “leader of all revolutionaries”.

Fidel was not just your leader. He was our leader and the leader of all revolutionaries. We followed him, listened to him and tried to emulate him. ” Mugabe said



Back home, his critics have accused Mugabe who is 92 years of failing to follow Mr Castro’s example by stepping down. Local media quoted an opposition spokesperson, Iphithule Maphosa, as saying ‘‘We urge Mugabe to pluck a leaf from Castro and do the right thing and resign over old age and reports of ill health.”

The Zimbabwe leader has led the country since 1980 when they got independence from Britain and have seen the country faced some of the worst economic crisis with thousands of people protesting his rule before protest were ban in the capital Harare, partly due to western imposed sanctions.His party, the ZANU-PF, has confirmed that he will run for office again in the 2018 presidential election.
