“How could I not love you?” sang the travelling, celebrating Madridistas on what very much felt like a night for questions. Most notably – while watching more history being made – what more is there to say about Real Madrid? A team who can play poorly but rely on one of their stars to turn it on at any second and win them big games.
The Spanish media on Sunday morning basked in the historic nature of Real Madrid’s 4-1 Champions League final victory over Juventus the previous night.
Zinedine Zidane’s side rolled over a well beaten Juve with a masterful second-half display in Cardiff, becoming the first team to win back-to-back Champions Leagues, while stretching their record haul of European Cups to 12.
Marca’s front page proclaimed Zidane’s side as “Masters of the Universe,” while also pointing out Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace meant he finished as the Champions League’s top scorer for a fifth successive season.

“Another legendary Madrid” was the headline in El Pais, where the match report commended Zidane’s achievement in getting his squad to set aside their egos and work together to secure the club’s first La Liga and the European Cup double since 1958.
“Converted into a winning machine, Madrid left another mark on posterity in their exclusive voyage through the most prestigious club competition in the universe,” wrote Jose Samano.
“In Cardiff another legendary Madrid side were enthroned, and not just for their 12th trophy; For their first double in 59 years, and for retaining the European Cup for the first time in 57; For winning three trophies in four years; For not being a galactico Madrid, but a Zidanesque-brotherhood, just in the season when least money was spent, showing that football does not have a price”.
