“Berakah and congratulations to the batch of endurance”, those were the words echoed by the President and pro-chancellor of the Catholic University Institute of Buea, Rev Fr George Nkeze (Ph.D ) as the elite university sends its third batch of students in a state of the art ceremony.
Amidst the uncertain whether condition with drizzling rain in the early hours of the morning, the City of saints and Scholars was ready as always. Thousands of guests who trooped in to the American modeled university will certainly have witnessed a different type of ceremony with class. What excellence looks and feels like was in full display at the heart of the Buea based entrepreneurial university.
With a world class décor that adorns the attractive campus, an unrivaled reception team, elegantly design stage and all smiling staff and faculty welcoming their VIPs in transition and their families, the elite university demonstrated to the world that indeed they are different.
The ceremony which was postponed from December 2016 for security reasons was staged today June 23rd and the ambiance was simply unmatched with security visibly prioritized amidst ongoing crisis in Anglophone Cameroon.
Commencing students answered present to take part in this unique opportunity which TboPost learned is the highest flagship tradition of the university.
After the academic procession where the university showcases its uniqueness and culture, the ceremony proper kick-started with an opening prayer led by Director of campus ministry Fr Xavier.
Taking the stage for is remark, the visionary president and pro Chancellor Rev Fr. George Nkeze told the students “You are the Batch that has the conqueror’s spirit; you are the Batch of the true Eagles of CUIB as you have shown by your way of life that you do not allow others to define who you are and what you want to do.” The accomplished adminstrator and Rome train educationist also touched on what he terms “Institutional and Academic Observations on the Cameroon Anglophone Educational system” where the talk of three key topics
- The Nature of a Catholic University
- Multiple Intelligences
- Entrepreneurial Mindset and Spirituality
Shuttling between quotes of different great men around the world the president also throw lights on the ongoing crisis to which he says has “exposed the weaknesses of our educational system which is too limited in its understanding of what is intelligence”. The president says our students give up too easily and “they lack the spirit of conquerors.”
The president concluded his remarks with a quote from great British leaders Churchill “This is the lesson: never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never – in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy” I encourage you today, as Churchill exhorted the school boys in 1941: “Whatever you do, never give in- and never, never, never give up”.
On his part the keynote speaker of the ceremony, Mr Francis Mbonguem a marketing entrepreneur, called on the students to welcome challenges and reach for the sky.
The accomplished marketer called on them to exercise skills learned in creating jobs and make the country a better one.
Concluding the speeches of thr day, the registrar of the University of Buea Prof Ndip Roland who was representing the VC debunk claims that CUIB certificates are not valid, stating that they have sign more than 400 attestations of those who have graduated and today’s celebrant and continue to do so for all, praising the partnership and management of CUIB for moving on despite challenging environment.
