Ahmad, President of the Confederation of African Football, CAF has said the football body is ready to mobilize in the bid to ensure a successful tournament in Cameroon.
Ahmad’s statement comes after a backdrop of earlier inflammatory remarks against the football powerhouse as they prepare to host the enlarge 2019 AFCON, telling those who cared to listen over his how the country is “not ready to host” the event despite having unceremoniously increased the teams from 16 to 24.
“We shall mobilize to ensure a successful competition in Cameroon, in spite of accusations against me by those persons close to Issa Hayatou” the new CAF boss is quoted as saying
Commenting on the apparent conflict between him and Issa Hayatou his predecessor, he affirmed that it is not of his nature to seek revenge. The CAF boss however reaffirmed that he will not compromise with any country or Executive that will not respect the prescriptions of the Confederation of African Football.
He added that a group of experts deployed by CAF will be on an eight day mission in Cameroon as from Sunday 20th August 2019 to evaluate progress at the sites and facilities to be used during the competition.
It should be recalled that many Cameroonian government officials, including President Biya, had criticised Ahmad’s remarks on the country’s hosting abilities.
Issa Hayatou, former CAF president and now President of Cameroon’s National Football Academy had said Ahmad’s remarks smacks volumes of bad faith and a conspiracy in the bid to take the tournament away from Cameroon.
